The lyre at the museum

Two weeks ago I made my first prototype of an Anglo Saxon or Germanic lyre. As a little surprise for the curator of Museum Dorestad in Wijk bij Duurstede.

Currently it is our National Museum Week. And Museum Dorestad has chosen their amber lyre bridge as showpiece for this event. When the curator told me about this I decided to make a reconstruction and give it on loan to the museum. I visited the museum a couple of days later to help with the new “Dirk van Baburen” exhibit. And to my surprise and delight they placed the lyre next to the original bridge in the case…

In june the museum will close to move to another location. So take this chance to visit the old museum while you still can…

Tip: The museum will be open for free this sunday…
