This is an interesting read…

Good assessment of the whole “paternalistic model”, never thought of it in that way, but it makes a lot of sense.
It also gives a good explanation of why many of the conservatives have an appearant inability for abstract thinking (and some for thinking in general) and make such short-sighted leaps. Even the idea of other possibilities will fill them with fear, as it shakes their whole system. Hard to imagine that somebody doesn’t act rationall but out of a fixed set of learned rules…

         Donald Trump is winning Republican presidential primaries at such a great rate that he seems likely to become the next Republican presidential nominee and perhaps the next president. Democrats have little understanding of why he is winning — and winning handily, and even many Republicans don’t see him as a Republican and are trying to stop him, but don’t know how. There are various theories: People are angry and he speaks to their anger. People don’t think much of Congress and want a non-politician. Both may be true. But why? What are the details? Many people are mystified. He seems to have come out of nowhere. His positions on issues don’t fit a common mold.
